Feeling underestimated or unappreciated are not the best feelings to have, but they are so beneficial and necessary.
Let me explain.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Matthew 7:6 “Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”
Why are you putting so much weight and pressure on the people around you? Are you so arrogant to dare to think that you estimate or appreciate everybody at their true potential? Come on; you are smarter and wiser than that.
When you feel underestimated, it is a sign that you need to move.
When you feel underestimated, it is a sign that you are scared to take the next step.
When you feel underestimated, it shows that you are expecting too much from others.
When you feel underestimated, it means that you have outgrown your environment and situation.
When you feel underestimated, it means you are spending time with the wrong people, even if they are old friends or family.
When you feel underestimated, it is a “you” problem, not a “they” problem.
And if you take that feeling and make it about someone else, you will start to resent the person you think underestimated you, and now you will feel the need to prove them something or, even worse, to get revenge. Please stop it. Stop behaving like a child and start acting like the wise, intelligent, and beautiful grownup that you are.
I mean, how childish and stupid revenge is. How ignorant and stupid proving someone wrong is. So why would you want to waste your time and energy on that? Why not invest your time and energy in building something healthy and beneficial?
You are the weakest and smallest when you compete with other people, and you feel underestimated and unappreciated when you are needy and helpless.
Stop it. Just stop.
Focus on prayer. Focus on growing your relationship with God. Focus on your health. Focus on investing your time and energy in growing.
Focus on now!
Why are you still casting your pearls before the swine and crying that the swine don’t appreciate your pearls?
Focus! You are better than that, and you know it.
I know you are scared, but the next chapter awaits you, so don’t let the old version of you keep you in a situation or an environment that does not suit you anymore. You need to move. Let’s go.
“If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside cannot harm us” – African Proverb.
You got this!
With love, your truly, Cristian.
