One of the best habits I picked up along my self-improvement journey was to make a list every day of the things I want to do tomorrow.
I started making a list when I realized that I wake up every day with a lot of energy and time but absolutely nothing in the bank of life.
Yes. It does not matter how much you prayed yesterday. It does not matter how much you told your children, parents, grandparents, or closest friends how much you love them. New day. Nothing in the bank.
It does not matter how much or how hard you worked out at the gym yesterday. Nothing in the bank today.
It does not matter how hard you worked on your dream yesterday. There is nothing in the bank today.
Zero. You start from scratch.
Having a list made me understand that it is always today. All the yesterdays I lived until now were all a “today” at one point.
And all the tomorrows I’m going to get will also be “todays”. Nothing else actually exists in reality besides today and the present moment.
Another huge benefit I got from making a list, every day, is that I start going after everything on that list as soon as I open my eyes. Ticking off the things I have on there is addictive, and I love it. My level of productivity went through the roof.
I don’t have complicated things on there. Maybe, with time, my list is going to evolve. But, for now, I have: praying – morning and evening, making my bed, going to the gym, drinking enough water, keeping a clean house, living with purpose and intention, being grateful, being present, and having fun with friends and family, reading or consuming inspirational and positive things for at least one hour, and making a list for the next day. Nothing complicated.
Jim Rohn was the first to talk about making a daily list. He is one of my favorite speakers of all time. You should check him out.
