Two souls, bound by fate, find themselves in the same boat on the vast, unforgiving ocean.
A hellish storm breaks out.
Ruff seas ahead.
The first guy sees it and mumbles to himself:
“It has not been long enough from my last storm. I have not yet recovered. I am still tired and shaken by that experience. This new storm is a clear sign that God is plotting against me and wants to see me defeated or even killed. There is no way I am getting out of this, so I’ll show Him.”
He jumps into the water and drowns with the weak illusion that he lifted a middle finger to life, existence, and God.
What a dumbass, right?
The second guy sees the storm and thinks:
“Yet another storm? It has not been that long since the last one. I am so tired. God must love me so much to trust that I can withstand so much. This could kill me, but what an opportunity to learn something new, to grow, and to win. What a great and inspiring story I will have to tell if I make it through this.”
He falls on his knees and prays with humility and gratitude.
He gets on his feet, smiles small in the corner of his mouth, smiles wide with his heart, and runs to his post.
Same ocean.
Same boat.
Same storm.
Our perspective about what happens to us most often forms our reality, the outcomes, and our lives in general.
It is irrelevant if the boat made it through the storm. Even if it did not, which person from the two would you like to be?
Would you rather die as a dumbass without even trying, or would you rather die as a hero fighting?
That is a choice each of us has to make.
But remember, as I’ve heard in The Gladiator, our choices echo in eternity.
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
