Things don’t improve with time.
Things left alone tend to go from bad to worse, or at least that has been my experience.
I was out of shape. I waited for three years. Nothing improved with time. The only thing that changed was that I was now three years older, more frustrated, and out of shape.
I had a gambling problem. Nothing improved by waiting for it to go away.
I had a drinking problem. Waited and waited. Nothing changed.
I hated my job. I waited for the management to change or at least that one stupid coworker to get fired or quit. Two years passed, and nothing changed.
I got divorced, and after a few years of healing, I was finally ready to meet someone with whom to enjoy life—I waited patiently. Nothing changed.
So, how did things change for me?
Action!
Action is the only thing that will bring any change into your life.
If you are a lazy procrastinator like I am, you may wait until you are so uncomfortable in your current situation that you feel you want to puke out of disgust first thing in the morning when you open your eyes and then act.
Or, if you are a reasonable human being, you should act as soon as you don’t like your situation and not wait to get disgusted.
I will get all my ducks in a row, and then I will take action – I used to tell myself.
It’s never going to happen!
Life is so beautiful and dynamic that you will never get all of your ducks in a row.
You need to take action now with what you are and what you have.
Yes, you will fail.
Yes, you will embarrass yourself.
Yes, you are going to look like a fool or maybe even like a crazy person at first, but if you keep going, at one point, life is going to give you what you want. And that will happen precisely when you have proved that you want it bad enough and are willing to work and fight for it.
After all that, you will look like a hero. A genius.
Long story short, the scheme is this:
Action.
Results.
Self-improvement.
Better aim.
Action.
Better results.
And so on until the last breath has left your body.
And please don’t ask me what is the first action you should take. If you sit in your favorite chair, in your favorite place on earth, alone and silent for fifteen minutes with a notepad and a pen in your hand, the answers to “What should be my first action?” will come to you faster than you can write them down.
Quiet on the set and ACTION!
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
