People told me, and they still do, that life is like a game of chess.
I never saw it that way.
That may be why I never had the patience to learn the game of chess.
Chess is purely intellectual and cold. I can see the board at all times.
Every piece has a designated freedom to move. That does not apply to life.
I have seen nobodies become somebodies way too many times.
I have seen pawns dancing and becoming kings.
I have seen kings choosing the wrong queen and becoming fools.
To me, life seems to be a game of Texas Holdem, but it is played with an infinite deck, and the jokers are kept in the deck.
I am sorry you can’t see the smile that formed on my face while I was finishing the former thought.
In chess, you can’t imply you have a queen on the board because I know my bishop took her from you.
In Texas Holdem, I can imply I have two queens in my hand while holding 7 – 2 off, and the only way for you to find out is by paying what I ask.
And you will pay if I tickle your ego. I may fold after the river, or I may raise it to put you all in.
But what if I have the queens?
You will be ruined.
You must learn how to pivot—raise, check, fold—forward, backward, left, and right.
You can only win if you are at the table.
Life is not a game of chess.
Life is a game of poker where sometimes there are no rules, and they get made up as you go.
Life is a game of poker, and you need to become so good at playing it that you need to develop humility so you may lose and win correctly.
Poker because in real life, the committed and disciplined idiot always beats the lazy and talented intellectual.
Aw, not to forget, in real life, you’ll never know how many Aces I have up my sleeve. In chess, my king, I can see that it is just you left and two pawns.
Texas Holdem, not chess.
Deal me in.
Ante up!
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
