Every time I try something, and I fail at it, the only one that takes a hit and suffers is my oversensitive, overinflated, big, stupid ego.
Let me give you an example.
Let’s say you’ve been single for a while. You needed to be single and spend some time alone to reevaluate what is important to you and to find out who you are, and who you actually want to be.
But now, you understand that this was just a season for you, and now you are ready to meet someone so you may develop and enjoy a beautiful and healthy relationship.
You start looking around to see if you can find someone who tickles your fancy, and you do. You find someone that you like, and you fantasize about how things between you would evolve into a relationship: the time you would spend together, the stories you would share, the vacations you would enjoy, and the memories you would build.
The only thing standing between you and the other person is your big, sensitive, and stupid ego.
What if I get rejected?
Well, if you get rejected, the only one taking a hit is your ego because deep down, you know that you don’t want to force yourself onto anyone. You would rather prefer they like you and accept you for who you are.
If you get rejected, you simply gain valuable information, and you can now move on from that person to find what you are looking for—your person.
But your stupid, overinflated, and oversensitive ego is going to tell you that if you get rejected, it is the end of the world, and you are going to die.
It is not the end of the world, and you are not going to die. Your ego will die little by little with every rejection, but that is a very good thing.
I have learned that in life, you can make yourself happy by trying new things and failing until you succeed, or you can make your ego happy by never trying anything new because of fear of failure and complaining that life is unfair.
We can’t have both.
Make that choice today. Choose to kill your ego little by little with every rejection so you may become free of it.
Once you get rid of your ego, life begins.
Stop trying to impress people you don’t like by playing it safe so you don’t look like a fool.
Stop being a slave to your ego.
Fuck my big, stupid, overinflated, and oversensitive ego, and fuck yours too.
Let’s be imperfect and free.
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
