Inspiration.
The Britannica Dictionary definition of inspiration is – something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create: a force or influence that inspires someone.
Inspiration is such a mysterious thing that even the definition from one of the most prestigious dictionaries in the world is somehow vague, seemingly incomplete, and shallow.
Inspiration is so hard to understand and so hard to explain because it is unique to each individual. What inspires me to do something won’t have any effect on you, and whatever inspires you may not even interest me.
If you want inspiration to find you, you have to keep an open mind and actively search for it.
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” – Albert Einstein.
“Search, and you shall find.” Matthew 7:7
I want to share with you the final prayer from the movie The Book of Eli with Denzel Washington. The Book of Eli is a movie about a blind man who walks for 31 years across America, from East to West, carrying the last copy of the Bible. It is a great movie. I suggest you watch it if you haven’t already. If you have seen it, you may want to watch it again.
The prayer goes like this:
“Dear Lord, thank you for giving me strength and conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me.
Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path. And for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost.
Thank you for your protection and for your many signs along the way.
Thank you for the good that I may have done.
I am so sorry about the bad.
Thank you for the friend I made.
Please watch over her as you watched over me.
Thank you for finally allowing me to rest.
I am so very tired.
But I go now to my rest at peace … knowing that I have done right with my time on this earth.
I fought the good fight.
I finished the race.
I kept the faith.”
This is what that man had to say after walking for 31 years by faith, and not by sight.
How inspiring!
May we all have the privilege and the honor to pray this prayer when the journey ends.
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
