I hear the word forever, and I immediately want to start laughing.
The only people who use the word forever are the ones that never thought about death.
“Death smiles at us all; all a man can do is smile back.” Marcus Aurelius
It’s kind of funny, actually, because I’ve been in such a good mood lately, and all I want to write about is death. But never mind that. Let’s do this.
Forever. Forever for each and every one of us is about 75 or 80 years, if we are lucky. When you put those numbers on paper, forever does not seem that long, does it? Not to mention you sleep 30% out of the total.
I don’t want you to think about death from a negative standpoint. Deth is not positive nor negative. Death is a reality, a fact, and a certainty.
Realizing and accepting your own mortality should make you kinder, especially to yourself. It should make you wiser, and most of all, accepting your mortality will make you feel more alive.
“The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel.” James Hunt
I have read somewhere that, according to a study, all fears lead, in some way or another, to the fear of death. Death should not scare you. You don’t have to run from it, and you don’t have to run to it. You need just accept it. And when you do, just like the truth, it will free you.
It will free you from ever feeling embarrassed again. It will free you from fearing to say I’m sorry. It will free you from not feeling enough. It will free you from trying to please others just to be accepted. It will make you accept yourself.
The purpose of death is not to scare you. The purpose of death is to make you want to live fully and beautifully. The purpose of death is to motivate you to break all the toxic traits that war passed to you from your family. The purpose of death is to encourage you to love genuinely and fully. The purpose of death is to wake you up.
The purpose of death is to make you value your time. The purpose of death is to make you focus your attention on the ones you love because you never know when is the last kiss, hug … or goodbye.
The purpose of death is to give you the courage to truly live!
If God and death would not exist, we should have invented both. What a blessing that they do.
You got one shot to be a good child, a good student, a good parent, and an example to others. One shot to be the one that did not give up and made it against all odds.
One shot.
Make it count!
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
