I am not particularly a religious person, and I am not an expert on the Bible. However, when you combine my laziness with my short attention span, which comes from my ADHD, you get a person who searches for the “nectar” in every situation, extracts it, and moves on.
All these God-given “conditions” have allowed me to conclude that the Bible is a love story—a love story between human beings, like you and me, and the force without a beginning or an end, all-seeing, all-knowing, merciful, and loving which is God.
In Exodus 3:14, God tells Moses His name is “I Am.” “I Am” transcends all time because it tells us there was never a time when He was not, and there will never be a time when He will not be because without “I Am,” nothing could ever be.
Bring all this to the present moment when you are reading this post, and you realize that we are because He is. Now that we have concluded that “I Am” is as present as He will always be, it means that you and I have access to Him.
If you ask yourself, as I was, how to access this beautiful, loving force, the answer is prayer.
Matthew 6, 5 to 13 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
Jesus teaches us, and the whole Bible for that matter, that prayer should be simple, personal, and intimate, and it should be done with your entire heart, not just babbling words from your intellect or mind. Prayer needs to be a form of meditation you do with your whole being.
I know you had a hard life, and your heart was broken so many times in so many pieces that sometimes you ask yourself if you still have one. So how could you pray with your heart if it’s broken and hardened like a rock? What a good thing there is a remedy for that. The perfect treatment for a broken heart, depression, and anxiety and the ideal way to bring yourself to the present moment.
I am sure you are up to date with the latest discoveries scientists made, which teach us that the heart has its own “brain”. If the heart has a neural network, it can be strengthened, and it also means that by “exercise,” we can form new neural connections, just like with the human brain. Amazingly, scientists are just discovering what people knew and used for thousands of years.
There is a beautiful and simple prayer which is called the Jesus Prayer, or the prayer of the heart, and it goes like this:
“My Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
This prayer should be practiced as a form of meditation. First, find a peaceful place, in your house or outside, where nothing can bother you, and start repeating the prayer. As you repeat the prayer, touch the tip of your thumb with the tip of your ring finger. Do this for at least 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night, and your heart will return to “life” stronger than ever. You will love this prayer so much that you will practice it for the rest of your life.
John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”
What are you waiting for? Start now. He is waiting!
With love, yours truly, Cristian.
