Writing about this subject is hard for me because it is so beautiful, sensitive, and delicate. It is almost impossible to put into words.
As human beings, we tend to value intellect above all else. What a misconception and a trap. Pure intelligence is cold and divisive, separative. The more it grows, and the more powerful it gets, the intellect tends to put everything in a box and put a nice big label on everything. But life is more than that.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
King Solomon invites us to trust the Lord with our hearts, not our minds or intellect. The intellect is a “tool” that we were blessed with, like our hands or feet, not something to identify with or perceive as ourselves. We are so much more than that. When we see ourselves just as our minds or intellect, we become egoistic and egocentric, and everything we do is to benefit our ego. If you follow this route in life, you will never be free, fulfilled, or happy. On the contrary, the more you get, the more you want.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23).
Muhammad Ali said: “The personality of a person, the ways of a person, the thoughts, the deeds, and the actions of a person are all based on his heart, for what is a man? A man is his heart! A lying cheating heart means a lying cheating man. A merciful, loving heart means a merciful, loving man.
A living heart means a living man, and a dead heart means a dead man. Regardless of man’s title, regardless of man’s wealth, rank, or position – if the heart is not great, then he can not be great. But if the heart is great, then man remains great under all circumstances – rich or poor, large or small.”
In other words, whatever you have in your heart is also what you give to everyone around you and also the world. It is the footprint you leave behind and your statement to creation. The heart dictates everything! So no matter how intelligent you think you are, this is a universal law and can not be broken. If your heart, for example, is filled with fear and anxiety, the more you think you “love” someone, the more fear and stress you will give them because you actually give them your heart. Isn’t that thought painful? Just digest that information for a second.
What is the solution, the antidote? Well, I’m glad you asked.
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29: 13)
And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” (Luke 16:15)
The Bible gives us many clues, but we are focused on being smart and have forgotten how to be wise. God loves us so much that not only has He given us His only child to die for ower sins, He asks us for our hearts just to fill them with love and to make sure that everything we ever give is love. How magnificent is that?
He is saying to us: ” I Am not only the spring of love; I Am pure and unconditional love. So give Me your heart to fill it up so you can experience my joy.”
Just by reading and understanding that, beyond rationality, you feel all the chains breaking and your spirit being freed.
Stand on your feet, elevate your face, and with your eyes closed, say aloud: God, I give my heart to you.
Use your mind and make the best decision of your life. Choose to give your heart to God and watch what happens.
Thank you, Lord.
With love and humility, yours truly, Cristian.
